Overview |
We have specially invited a metalwork craftsman, experienced in repairing decorative metalwork for Nikko’s shrines and temples, who will hold a decorative metalwork demonstration and workshop.
During the demonstration, viewers can see an arabesque patterned, keri-bori style engraving and nanako engraving in real time!
During the workshop, participants will start with engraving straight lines, curved lines, and simple designs with a chisel called tagane. They will then receive a copper plate with a pre-engraved design and have the chance to carve small nanako marks one by one to complete the decorative metalwork.
*This workshop is being held alongside the Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum’s 40th Anniversary Exhibition “The Colors and Metalwork of Nikko: Revealing the mystery behind the architectural beauty of its shrines and temples.”
