Exhibition Outline

Philippe Weisbecker brings a unique sensitivity to his illustrations of commonplace objects drawn from everyday scenes. This exhibition highlights works produced during Weisbecker’s time in Japan. Collected here are various motifs such as car wheel stoppers, or road barriers indicating off-limit areas; trucks and buildings; Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats; wastebaskets; and a range of tools, from those used daily to tools for carpentry. Also featured is a film of his atelier in Paris, guided by Weisbecker himself; loaned from his Paris atelier are sketchbooks of his work, alongside other items including Weisbecker’s treasured tools collected in Japan. Please enjoy the many faces of Japan, illustrated from Weisbecker’s perspective.
